The
Trail of Tears/Indian Removal Act resulted in the further genocide and forced displacement of
indigenous peoples living in their homelands south-east of the Mississippi, as well as the
furthering of colonization of indigenous people and land west of the Mississippi River. In 1830,
the colonial settler president and enslaver of human beings, Andrew Jackson, enacted the Indian
Removal Act that catalyzed the death, enslavement, imprisonment (in concentration camps), and
displacement of tens of thousands of indigenous peoples.
