x - 3y = 5
........(1)
2x + y = 4 ........(2)
using the eliminattion
methos, multiply (2) by 3 and add to (1):
==> 7x = 17
==> x = 17/7
Now to calculate y,
substiute in (2):
==> y= 4 - 2x
= 4-
2(17/7)
= (28 - 34)/7 = -6/7
==> y= -6/7
